About us
Foundations for Ukraine is an answer to the needs expressed by many philanthropic organizations active in Ukraine:
- more collaboration in advocacy for Ukraine
- more spaces to learn from each other and about the evolving challenges in the country
- more coordination of philanthropic activities to better serve local partners
- These needs stem from a shared goal: the support, recovery, and long-term resilience of Ukraine.
The creation of this network is also driven by a shared understanding that supporting Ukraine is not just about Ukraine. It is also about confronting an existential threat to the foundations of free civil societies, of which philanthropic organizations committed to democracy and human rights are an integral part.
Thus, we aim to strengthen the collective response to the ongoing war, ensuring that efforts are aligned, knowledge is shared, and innovative solutions are explored to maximize the efficacy of philanthropic support in Ukraine. By integrating diverse resources and expertise, we ensure that support is directed where it’s needed most and that we can adapt to Ukraine’s evolving needs. Our network amplifies Ukraine’s voice on the global stage. F4U’s actions are grounded in collaboration with Ukrainian civil society, ensuring that activities of the network are rooted in local realities.
We work to create an open, transparent space for members to reflect and build lasting partnerships, all while respecting each organization’s unique mission. We operate with a light governance and a membership model that is based on non-financial contributions to the network. This network does not program for its members but responds to what emerges from the context and the activities of members inside and outside of the network.
The two-year incubation phase of Foundations for Ukraine is funded by The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and The Robert Bosch Stiftung. The network is hosted by the International Alumni Center (iac Berlin), which plays a key role in facilitating the creation of a partner structure, fosters cross-border collaboration, and provides the necessary infrastructure and expertise to guide Foundations for Ukraine as it grows into an impactful alliance of philanthropic actors.
